AUTUMN WALK IN VIENNA

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower”

You wouldn’t believe the important role nature plays here in Vienna. In spring the cherry blossoms paint the city in the most beautiful pink. Later on, the flowers start blooming everywhere while the public parks are covered in roses, peonies and even tulips… But then summer is over… and a spectacular show begins…

WELCOME AUTUMN! NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN 🙂

In today’s post I will take you on a walk around Vienna and show you my favourite places to enjoy long walks, drink Sturm, and take lots of colorful instagram pictures !

Let’s start at the Kahlenberg. You’ve probably heard about it. It’s the hill with stunning views and enjoyable hiking trails. Oh and also, here you may probably drink the best Sturm in Vienna while spending the afternoon at a Heuriger (wine tavern) surrounded by vineyards.  For those of you who still haven’t tried Sturm, it’s a slightly fermented grape juice which tastes a lot like wine but it’s sweeter and lighter, really yummy!

The views are pretty spectacular here, especially at sunset!

Our next stop is at the gardens of the Schönbrunn.  This is a wonderful place to go for a walk and photograph some amazing colorful trees. My favourite spot is the tunnel you see on the pictures, which is just a few meters away from the Hietzing entrance. If you have the time (and the energy) you can also visit the Palmenhaus.

Our third stop is at the Prater, which is not only about the amusement park but also one of the biggest green areas in Vienna. The street you see on the pictures is 4,4 km long so be ready to walk, or even better: ride a bike!

Last stop: Donauinsel. A lot of tourists visit Vienna without seeing the Danube. That’s because the river doesn’t go through the city center as it would for example in Budapest. I suggest you take the u1 to the stop Donauinsel and visit the island. You can walk along the river or ride a bike if you want to go further.

Thanks for joining me on this autumn walk around Vienna, and also for voting on the poll on Instagram! I have noticed that the Barrel Experience got a lot of votes though, so I may be writing about that too 🙂
